Charles Martin PTA 2200 10/24/17 PICO question assignment How will you connect what you learned in this assignment to your work in the on-site clinic or your clinical internships? The key to treating patients is making sure that they receive evidence based therapy. They will benefit from receiving the most up to date therapy and as a clinician I can make sure that I will be reimbursed for the treatment I deliver. Whether in a clinic or in acute care, there are going to be patients who are not progressing in their treatment like they would like to. Taking what I learned about Professional Research literature, I know that there is information available that can help in providing more effective care. Prior to this assignment I have actually had a great deal of exposure to trying to search for research article only specific topics. These prior experiences were met with mixed feelings of interest and the need to just find something to write about. There wasn’t much that tied me to the research or interested me enough to want to learn more. It was strictly to get a decent grade and once I finished what I needed out of the article I put it in the back of my mind and forgot about it because it had no personal application to me. I can say with confidence that this was a different experience. I feel like I have found what I truly want to do with a career. That being said, I want to be the best that I can be when it comes to helping others return some of their functional abilities as I have seen first-hand how much of a positive influence a great Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant can be on a person. New and effective procedures are sought all the time. As a future PTA and as a current student, I feel like I can increase my knowledge and understanding of my profession as well as be a great benefit to patients that are seen in the on-site clinic as well as future patients I will see if I take an interest in the newest Evidence based practices. I now know where to look, I know what and how to refine my searches and I feel like I can adequately find the information I seek. Being able to analyze research and then to apply it can be difficult and time consuming. I remember when we had a visitor come to class and spoke with us about joining the APTA and mentioned that when we have signed up and then joined a specialty group that we can receive notices to specific research that is within our interests. I think that is one of the hardest things to do, is to locate the newest most relevant practices and then put it into practice. I look forward to working in the profession of the PTA and now I can become a more effective professional by applying the new significantly founded methods into my care.
